DID YOU KNOW? – Commodity trading in Africa

Africa’s annual commodity trade figures average USD 280 billion, evenly divided between imports and exports. While the development of economic sectors of a country is crucial to a balanced and vibrant economy, a special focus has to be made on the agro-commodity sector, where there is a huge gap between the demand and the food commodities supplies.

This gap is partly increased by the lack of adequate skills and capital in the sector where the resettled small-scale farmers are concerned.

The weather patterns have not been favourable in the current season, thereby exposing many African regions to gross food importations, while creating an opportunity for commodity traders and financiers to consolidate and venture into this highly lucrative sector of the economy.
